Oatmeal, peanut butter, banana, egg & coffee. What else does a person need to start the day? We all know the secret ingredient to the perfect morning is a hefty dose of caffeine. Sure, the oatmeal and banana are “healthy,” but come on, the coffee is definitely the shining star in this photo. A perfect combination for Day 1 of training. Let’s dig in...

Training itself started a little slow, beginning with introductions and an overview of the course. It was interesting to hear everyone’s background and why they were getting trained in thermography. There were people wanting to learn how to use infrared for substations, HVAC systems, roof inspections, architecture, electrical systems, and more. Personally, I was there for a more broad reason; to learn about thermography and its applications, how to run/analyze an infrared camera and to be able to relate these things to a customer. The highlight of my morning was listening to everyone’s background and what they wanted from the course because this helped me gain a better understanding of what infrared thermography can do for people.
The day continued with a fantastic lunch buffet provided by the hotel restaurant before getting into the more difficult material that was to come in the class. It was nothing but learning from then on out. Our instructor taught us a lot about what infrared thermography is and what it isn’t, and how to describe it to others. This is not an easy concept and can be very difficult to portray. I am still pondering over how I would word it. We also talked about the benefits of thermography and how certain factors can help you be a better thermographer. Come back next week to hear how my evening went for the first night and hopefully by then I'll be able to share my thoughts on what I learned during training for day 1.
Cheers!
