Training Day 2, Part 1

Phew! There was no relaxing this morning as we started our second day of training. We dove right in and continued on our way to becoming thermal warriors. There was so much information presented that it was becoming apparent to me this stuff was not going to be easy. The picture on the left is me during our lab periods for the day. We were able to take some of the information we learned and put it to practice. It is one thing to hear the information and have it absorbed into your brain, but it is totally different to actually use it in the field! You think you have it all figured out-then you actually give it a go and things don’t work out as well as you would have hoped… BUT these times in training were perfect for becoming more familiar with the camera in a safe environment where we could ask as many questions as needed.

I don’t want to get too deep into the concepts we learned on the second day just yet...I just want to say that it is important to note that none of this is easy and quality training is a must. I had to remind myself constantly that this will take a lot of experience before I can do thermography well. Today was a great day to make mistakes and learn from them. There have been a couple times during the day that I wondered if I ever was going to completely understand everything. But I kept with it and things slowly started to click for me. So...hang in there with me and together we'll make it through the process!

When things actually started to make sense, I had to admit that I was having a good time. I felt pretty nerdy, but I got excited about all of this infrared stuff and wanted to learn more. There is nothing better than having something make sense after initially not “getting it.” I promise if you stick with it you will enjoy it and want to find out more about how to become a thermal warrior! Stay tuned because next week we will discuss more in depth about how heat and temperature play a role in taking quality infrared images.
