What is infrared and how can I benefit from it?
First let's break these 2 questions down.
What is infrared?- First we have to go back to that dreaded (or maybe not dreaded) science class you took in high school where we learned about light. Just as regular light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum like X-Rays and Radio Waves, infrared is too. So the difference between infrared and visible light is its wavelength. Basically that means it is the result of different energy. Which leads us to the second part of our question.
How can I benefit from infrared? Knowing that there is energy that we can't see with our regular eyes means there are things happening that we may not completely understand. FLIR Systems, Inc. has harnessed the ability to provide us with a way to be able to see how that energy affects us. This energy is the result of heat transfer radiation. This isn't the harmful radiation but is just a normal part of heat being transferred from one object to another like conduction and convection; and is in fact all around us all the time. One example of this is the sun. We feel it's warming radiation every day. With the use of thermal imaging devices, also known as infrared cameras, we can see this heat movement and measure the temperature of it.

The FLIROne thermal imaging attachment allows you to add an infrared camera to your smartphone or tablet. Using the advanced MSX imaging technology, the FLIROne combines the highlights from the digital camera to the infrared image captured by a calibration infrared detector to give you superior identification capabilities of the thermal world around you. Now the "average Joe" can become a Thermal Superhero by solving every day temperature related problems.
The FLIROne provides an intermediate way for photography fanatics, everyday consumers, and industrial professionals to add "seeing" in a new type of the light spectrum and be able to see how the temperatures all around them are affecting them. Or just be able to take a "really cool selfie." The main difference in all infrared cameras, like digital cameras, is the resolution of the detector. In infrared, though, this means that each "pixel" of resolution is a temperature measurement. So the higher the resolution the greater your super hero power. |
